Netgear WNCE2001 Universal WiFi Internet Adapter

 This universal wireless adapter is so cool I had to do a review on it. The WNCE2001 can be connected to any electronic device that has an Ethernet port capable of connecting to the internet. It’s perfect if you don’t want to run Ethernet cable all the way to the router, especially if the device you want to connect is in an inconvenient location. You can use it to create a wireless connection to any game consoles, DVD/Blu-Ray players, HDTV’s, DVR’s or anything else that has an Ethernet port but doesn’t have built-in wireless capability.

NETGEAR DGND3300 RangeMax Dual Band Wireless-N Router with Built-in DSL Modem

For those who want to keep it simple Netgear’s DGND3300 is ideal. It is an ADSL2+ modem combined with a Wireless-N and wired Ethernet router. Everything you need to connect to the internet via ADSL connection and set up a home network in one little box.

Note: Netgear’s website claims the DGND3300 has “Gigabit for faster wired connections”. However, on the product data sheet it states it has “Four (4) Fast Ethernet ports”.

  • Fast Ethernet is 100 Mb/s
  • Gigabit Ethernet is 1000 Mb/s

The difference is not going to affect your internet speed since the max speed possible, if you actually get an ADSL2+ connection, is 24 Mb/s. It will, however, affect the speed of your home network. Transferring files, data or media between Gigabit capable equipment over you home network would be greatly enhanced with a Gigabit capable router. I will be contacting Netgear to clarify the details and will update this post when I find out.

Cisco-Linksys E3000 High-Performance Wireless-N Router

 The E3000 claims to have wireless speeds of up to 300 Mbps using a wireless-N adapter. It uses Gigabit Ethernet ports (1000Mbps) for any devices wired directly to the router. A USB port on the back is designed to attach external storage devices (a.k.a. external hard drives, flash drives, etc…) for access from across your entire home network. This is a great alternative to purchasing a stand-alone Network Attached Storage (NAS) drive, and would be perfect for using as a back-up drive for all the computers on your network or for storing all documents that you want to share across the network (movies, pictures, music, etc…).

This is an excellent wireless router.

Cisco-Linksys WRT54G2 Wireless-G Broadband Router

 The Cisco-Linksys WRT54G2 is a Wireless-G Broadband Router. It is not as fast as Wireless-N routers. The only security options are WPA2, WEP (with a 128 bit key), and Wireless MAC Filtering. The best security option would be WPA2 as a 128 bit WEP key can easily be cracked.
